About Ron Putman

Ron Putman is a renaissance man. Talented and skilled in many areas, he has one overriding passion—dance! Trained as a Certified Public Accountant, Ron has owned and managed a number of businesses from restaurants to furniture factories over the last three decades.

Now a professional instructor and an award-winning competitive dancer, Ron has competed in several states and two countries with four professional and three amateur partners. His interest in dance took him by surprise since it was his wife who signed him up for a six week dance class. It was this experience along with taking classes from more advanced instructors that ignited his interest in continuing to dance.

Ever the entrepreneur and always ready for a new challenge, he evolved quickly into a line dance coach at the height of country line dancing in the mid-1990’s. Ron won the individual CDA National Championship Award in 1998 and he danced with and coached the team that won the CDA National Championship Award in 1999.

When not competing, Ron teaches Ballroom, Swing and Country dance as well as wedding choreography to individuals, couples and groups at Freedom of Movement Dance Studio. His amicable approach and extensive knowledge allows him to adapt easily to all styles from the novice to the experienced and from the casual to the serious. The sense of accomplishment, the mental and physical stimulation, and watching people enjoy learning to dance is what he finds most rewarding.

Ron participated in the inaugural Dancing with the Athens Stars benefiting domestic abuse Project Safe in March of 2008 placing third overall and in 2009 placing second in the People’s Choice Awards.

An avid hobbyist, he has spent his adult years involved in many activities that interest him from training Labrador Retrievers to flying airplanes. Other hobbies include hunting, gardening and cooking. He has developed a reputation as “The Dancing Gourmet” and specializes in creating gourmet dining experiences for intimate gatherings. He also coordinates the hospitality for select dance competitions throughout the year.

Ron manages Miller’s Blueberry Farm in Watkinsville, Georgia which produces seven varieties of blueberries and attracts thousands of pickers every season.

He is a graduate of the University of Alabama. He and his wife reside in Bogart, Georgia and have two adult children.
